Douglas Vernimmen (Brasenose College) is a molecular biologst at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. He first became interested in photography in 2002, when taking a photograph of a bridge in paris. In 2004 he came to Oxford, and fell in love with the city. A versatile photographer Douglas shoots both digitally with his Canon EOS 20D, and 35mm with his EOS 100.

Francesco Riva  (Merton College) is 28 (gosh!), from the italian part of Switzerland, and is trying to conclude a PhD in theoretical physics at Merton College, Oxford. Luckily, his father is a professional photographer and many years ago told him 3 secret (!) rules which he always remembers. He loves wildlife and nature photography in particular and his pictures have been selected for a number of competitions (like the PHOTO France amateurs) and used for CD or magazine covers a few times, but never got a penny out of it!

Hugh Wright (St John's College) who prides himself on his use of colour, has studied geography for the last two years at Oxford. He considers himself a cheat, as using a digital camera (a Konica-Minolta Dimage Z10 to be precise) just involves pressing a few different buttons - no darkroom  expertise needed!

Cambridge Jones (European Photographer of The Year Awards) has photographed four British Prime Ministers, The Queen, and
everyone who is anyone from Sir Anthony Hopkins to James Bond.  Some of his recent work resides in The Queen's private Library at Windsor Castle. He has just moved to Oxford from The Peloponnese with his wife and two young daughters. www.cambridgejones.com

Fiona Herring (Brasenose College) is a doctoral student at the Said Business School. She has always enjoyed photography, but is now learning the science and techniques behind the art, armed with a digital SLR. Fiona's father, Kip, is a very talented photographer and Fiona is fortunate to be able to learn from his experience. Photo: May Day (winner 2007).

Susana Pires  (Green College) was born in Portugal on a Summer's day. After finishing college she travelled the world looking for a warm destination to live and pursue a PhD. Started in San Diego and unexplainably ended up in Oxford. Fell in love with the romantic nostalgia of the city and having a really bad memory she uses her Canon EOS 400D camera to immortalise every moment as she would like to remember it. She is finishing a DPhil in Neurosciences but is still an amateur in photography.

Suzy Styles (St Edmund Hall) is an experimental psycholinguist with a background in Japanese Studies, who has recently begun learning the art of black and white photography. She started taking her shooting seriously when her photo of a barren gravel path won an Australian photography competition - for the capital's annual flower show. Suzy explores candid moments of light in darkness, with an eye to challenging perspectives.
